The Middle of the Wedding Market Is Disappearing

I’ve been digging into the latest industry data, and I want to share something I read that I think deserves your attention before booking season kicks into high gear.

The Big Picture for 2026: The Market Is Splitting

In the year-end issue of Market Minute from The Wedding Report, (which I highly, highly recommend) Shane McMurray laid out what the 2025 data is telling us: the wedding market isn’t shrinking—it’s polarizing.

Couples are increasingly falling into two camps:

Camp 1: Deep Value Couples These folks prioritize efficiency, transparency, and speed. They want clear packages, visible pricing, fast responses, and easy booking. They’re not necessarily “budget” couples—they just don’t want to waste time. Ease is king here.

Camp 2: High Premium Couples
These couples are buying meaning, personalization, and peace of mind. For them, luxury isn’t about excess—it’s about emotional value, a strong point of view, and feeling like they’re getting something crafted just for them.

Why This Matters For You

The venues feeling the most pressure right now? The ones mostly trying to attract the middle of the market. That’s the segment getting squeezed.

This doesn’t mean you need to be the cheapest OR the most expensive. It means you need to be clear about who you serve best and let that clarity show up everywhere—your website, your pricing, your inquiry responses, your social media.

The 2-Minute Test

Here’s a simple audit to run before January gets away from you:

If a couple lands on your website tonight, can they tell who you’re for and what you cost in under two minutes?

If the answer is “maybe not,” here’s where to start:

  1. Clarify your pricing. You don’t have to list every number (in fact, please don’t!), but give couples enough to know if they’re in the right ballpark. Transparency builds trust (and saves you time on mismatched inquiries)
  2. Write one clear positioning sentence. Who are you for? What makes you different? Use that sentence in your website header, your Instagram bio, and your inquiry responses.

TO-DO FOR YOU:

  1. Take the 2-minute test. Set a timer, open your website on your phone like you’ve never seen it before, and see if you can answer these three questions:
  2. Who is this venue for?
  3. What does it cost (roughly)?
  4. How do I take the next step?

If you get stuck anywhere, that’s your first fix for 2026.
